Services Services We offer a number of In-Office Procedures for the convenience of our patients. These procedures are done in the comfort of our office and do not require general anesthesia.  This allows you to resume normal activities the next day. IUD Placement An IUD is a long-term, reversible method of birth control.  There are currently two types of IUDs on the market; ParaGard and Mirena.   ParaGard is active for 10 years and contains no hormones.  Return to fertility is immediate following its removal.  Mirena is active for 5 years and contains progesterone which affects the lining of the uterus, creating lighter or absent periods.  Colposcopy Colposcopy is performed following an abnormal pap smear result.  The colposcope is a magnifying scope used to visualize the vagina and cervix.  If necessary, biopsies are taken to guide further treatment.  For further information, click here. Endometrial Biopsy Endometrial biopsy is an office procedure used to examine the cells that line the cavity of the uterus. This test may be recommended in the evaluation of abnormal bleeding.  A thin tube is inserted through the cervix into the uterus during a pelvic exam. A small amount of tissue is removed and sent to the lab for analysis. Endometrial Ablation Endometrial ablation is used to treat heavy and/or long menstrual periods.  It is non- hormonal and is designed to lessen or stop menstrual bleeding.  There are different types of endometrial ablation.  Heroption cryoablation is done in our office. Essure Essure is a permanent method of birth control done in the office.  It is the most effective method of birth control.  Unlike tubal ligation, general anesthesia is not necessary.
